OWNA SPONSOR CIRCLE – OSWEGO NY is an organization of local residents who have volunteered to join together under the U.S. State Department Sponsor Circles partnership program to sponsor an Afghan newcomer(s) to resettle here in our local community. We will partner with one of the eleven umbrella sponsorship organizations who will guide our efforts to create a structured plan to raise funds, arrange for housing, overcome bureaucratic hurdles, then ultimately welcome an Afghan newcomer(s) and assist them as they arrive to stand up for themselves as new members of our community. Once the Afghan newcomer(s) arrive, we will provide structured assistance for approximately 90 days, at which point our plan is expected to have succeeded in enabling the newcomer(s) to stand up for themselves. At that point, our organization will decide if we want to continue by sponsoring more Afghan newcomer(s) or embark on a different initiative.
